Rooms

In the main house we have four double rooms and two suites upstairs, and another double downstairs, each with its own individual character. They have all the usual stuff you’d expect, so you can have an emergency cup of tea, and watch or listen to the morning news on the radio or TV.

Each double room is similarly proportioned at around 12ft/3.75 metres square. We both have our favourite (not the same one) and are struck by how often our regular guests have a different opinion.

All the rooms are comfortably furnished with en-suite bathrooms and large double beds. They all provide a quiet retreat at the end of the day, and are not overlooked – we love the fact that in all these rooms, there is no need to draw the curtains or pull the blinds down if you don’t wish to. You can often see the stars on a clear night and from some, on a winter morning, you may see the snow on top of the mountains that surround the village, without even getting out of bed.

Room 1

Located in the south-east corner of the house, Room 1 has southerly views of the tree-lined driveway and the garden looking towards Rowen.

The newly refitted en-suite has a shower over the bath, as well as an eco-friendly Smart Japanese toilet and a heated mirror. The room can be arranged either with twin beds or a 6ft wide double bed – you could almost lose your partner!

Room 6

Room 6 is next; don’t ask why rooms 4 and 5 have been missed out – we assume whoever originally numbered the rooms was interrupted in his work. Or perhaps they were researching the wine list at the same time.

This room has recently had a comprehensive makeover and the ensuite now has one of our new eco-friendly “intelligent” Japanese toilets and a rainfall shower. There’s also a smart TV; we don’t yet know if it’s smarter than the intelligent toilet, but the TV remote control is smaller than the one that you’ll find in the bathroom. This room has a slightly smaller bed, a mere king size at (5ft wide) but is otherwise no smaller than the other rooms.

It faces West and has a dual aspect with views of the gardens and the mountain beyond.

The Rowen Suite

The Rowen suite is the largest (measuring 6m x 4m / 20ft x 14ft) and one of our most popular rooms; offering stunning views of the mountains beyond the village.
You enter the suite through a dressing area with antique wardrobe; steps lead you down to the bedroom where you’ll find a 6ft wide superking bed and a seating area with a comfortable two-seat sofa. Your eyes will most likely be looking through the windows at the view of the mountains that seem to start at the end of the garden.
The spacious en-suite has been given a complete make-over, it has a walk in wet-room shower and a separate bath. It has also been treated to a Japanese toilet and heated mirror.
