When we discovered Tir y Coed in 2016, we fell in love with the house, the gardens, Rowen and the mountains. The icing on the cake was a weathered coach house built, as far as we can tell, at the same time as the main building, facing south and overlooking the mountains.
We were, from the beginning, intrigued by this building, which from the outside appeared to be a two-storey cottage, with upper level windows just below the roofline, giving the appearance of a dwelling, but inside looking very much like a garage, complete with an inspection pit. We were, of course, desperate to renovate it but our priority was to ensure the integrity of the main house was secured and to reduce our carbon footprint. To that end, over the last two winters we have fitted double-glazed sash windows, infra-red radiators, low emission LED lighting and installed energy efficient kitchen equipment that wouldn’t look out of place in a Michelin rated environment. At the same time we have upgraded the broadband so our internet capabilities compare with the best in terms of speed and function.
We have been closed over the winter of 2018 and our attention was turned to our mysterious Coach House. Whilst retaining it’s charm, it will be an Eco home, embracing smart technology, taking its power from air source heat technology, bringing Tir y Coed into the 21st Century. An independent, self-contained, indulgent suite, allowing guests (including those with teenagers) their own space and freedom. You can expect all the luxuries that our guests have grown to expect: serviced daily, still with a full traditional breakfast that we prepare and deliver to you to enjoy in your own private space inside or on the balcony. Of course, you may prefer to come across and enjoy breakfast in the house (if you don’t have children) but it’s up to you.
The bedroom with en-suite bathroom, will sleep two adults but there is the option to use the mezzanine to sleep two teenagers too. You will have a private living area all to yourself with your own choice of music (or ours if you want a change) and beautiful views out to the mountains through a huge picture window stretching floor to rafters and patio doors which open onto a private south facing balcony for lazy summer evenings. You’re always welcome to pop round to the bar in the main house, so if you forgot to pick up the prosecco on the way back, there is no chance of going thirsty.
From the moment you approach the Coach House we want you to relax and get the vibe. All that remains to be done is the practical stuff like washing up the breakfast dishes and making the beds and you can leave that to us, you won’t need to lift a finger.
